Mauritius Tourism Authority

Tourism is one of the key pillars of the Mauritian economy. The development of tourism which started in the early 1950’s with approximately 1,550 visitors, has been accelerating at varying paces over the years to stand out today as a powerful engine of growth for investment, entrepreneurship, wealth and job creation.

With the constant increase in tourist arrivals to attain a record figure of nearly 1.2 million visitors in 2015, tourism activities on the island have been expanding and sophisticating in relation to the growing tourist demands. Consequently, regulatory and monitoring functions for tourism development have been structured with the creation in 2003 of a specialized institution, theTourism Authority.

Tourism Authority is a parastatal body operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism and External Communications and is governed by the Tourism Authority Act 2006.

The mission of the Tourism Authority is to strive towards making Mauritius a world class holiday and business destination for travelers through the development of an attractive tourism product, the enhancement of tourism services and the constant refinement in legendary hospitality and warmth of the Mauritian nation. Our ultimate goal is to render the stay of our visitors trouble-free and their experience memorable.
