 Objectives of the Tourism Authority

Ø To promote the sustainable development of the tourism industry
Ø To foster and encourage the conduct of activities in the tourism industry in a responsible manner to preserve the integrity of the destination
Ø To coordinate, support and interact with organisations and institutions aimed at promoting the tourism industry
Ø To foster research for the effective implementation of tourism policies
Ø To promote public understanding and interest in the tourism industry
Ø To develop and implement tourism and tourism related projects
 
Functions/ Activities of the Tourism Authority
Ø Licence, regulate and supervise tourist enterprises
§ Inspect tourist enterprises to check the standards prior to the approval for a TEL.
§ Monitor the tourist enterprises to ensure compliance with standards and suppress illegal, unsound and improper practices.
Ø Register, licence and regulate the use of pleasure crafts
§ Survey of pleasure crafts to assess the seaworthiness.
Ø Licence and supervise the activities of canvassers and skippers
§ Conduct Training of skippers on “Code de La Mer” and safety & security measures.
§ Conduct  Competency Test (theoretical and practical examination for a skipper licence)
Ø Uplifting of the tourist destination
§ Cleaning of Tourist Areas
§ Control of stray dogs
§ Placement of buoys
Ø Provide technical assistance to Rodrigues (with respects to Pleasure Crafts and Tourist Enterprises)
